Mablethorpe Half Marathon - 16 September 2007 - Dawn Fletcher
For an excellent weekend of racing I think it would be hard to beat the Mablethorpe Road Races. A huge thanks you to the organisers of a fantastic event. Every single one of the team deserves massive praise. In all the races I have taken part in over the years I have never been so impressed with the whole set up like this weekend. From the pre race literature, pasta party, welcome by the Mayor, course, post race facilities. Lots of attention to detail, which is brilliant to see. The marshalls and water stations were really encouraging and the people of Mablethorpe so friendly. The only thing they can’t control is the weather, last year too hot, this year too windy! but you can’t have everything.
3 club members completed the half marathon, Eddie Fletcher (1.27.00), Dawn Fletcher (1.40.12) and Steve Kellett (1.48.02); only Justine Towmey was brave enough to tackle the full distance (3.31.13). The flat course and windy conditions took its toll on all of us and I think the times reflect this.
The course was extremely well marshalled and had plenty of water stations, the organisers really think about what runners need. The goody bag had a T-Shirt, medal, lovely paperweight with a runner in it and jelly babies, what more could you want!
Just to top it off Eddie and I had a massive carvery and a pint of real ale at near by Sutton-on-Sea and as we were driving back we received a text message with our time and finishing position, excellent stuff.
We will definitely be back next year, and hope to take a few of you along with us.
